Productivity Tools 🔧
Note: After using these tools in 2023/2024, I have moved back to iTerm2 (an eye on Alacritty and Kitty). For note-taking, tasks, and short notes, I have transitioned to using Notion. The current challenge is finding a tool with a solid foundation that offers meaningful AI features without requiring multiple AI subscriptions.
Here is a compilation of the tools in my working environment.
Note-taking - Obsidian
- Easy and portable with native Markdown Support
- Plugins Ecosystem
- Git plugin allows syncing your notes to a remote GitHub repository
- Daily notes plugin creates a new note file for each day for journaling
- Templates plugin enables creating notes from custom templates
- Draw.io integration adds diagrams and flowcharts
- Back-linking, automatically links between notes, connections and relationships in your knowledge base
- Tag your notes to quickly find the notes you want
Task manager - Todoist
- Inbox, quickly dump tasks to tackle later.
- Labels and Filters, organize tasks with labels and filters
- Workspaces and projects, isolate by client, personal/work, etc…
- Priorities and Due Dates, for smart scheduling
- Keyboard shortcuts and natural language for fast task entry
- Integrations (Google Calendar, Slack, etc.)
Terminal - Warp
I would call it iTerm2
on steroids.
- AI capabilities, to help generating regex / jq / etc…
- UNIX commands shareable via permalinks
- Workflows - UNIX commands bookmarks for your team
Diagramming tools
These tools are offering a web interface and are free of charge—mostly using draw.io but using one of the others when it requires to quickly share a link and collaborate on the same diagram.
